Welcome to Newcomerstown High School

Newcomerstown High School has been awarded, for the fourth time and third year in a row, the State Superintendent's Schools of Promise.

Newcomerstown High School has been selected based on 2008-09 Ohio achievement test data and low-income data. The Schools of Promise program is designed to recognize and highlight schools with a high percentage of students achieving academic success where all populations of students are well served. NHS meets all criteria expected to be awarded this for the 3rd straight year in a row! NHS, and other high schools are awarded this by having at least 40% of the students are economically disadvantaged, adequate yearly progress made, graduation rate at least 85%, and student performance on the OGT’s for 10th graders was at least 75% and for 11th graders, 85% in reading and/or math (NHS did achieve BOTH).

Jan. 2010: Newcomerstown High School receives bronze ranking in the U.S. News and World Report list of the nation's best high schools!

In a congratulatory letter from Deborah S. Delisle, Superintendent of Public Instruction in Ohio recognizing our school as a bronze ranking in the U.S. News and World Report list of the nation's best high schools!  This honor is certainly a testament to the high quality education Newcomerstown High School provides to all students.  According to the  U.S. News and World Report, schools on the list are evaluated on how well they educate all students, including minority and economically disadvantaged students, and how well students are prepared for college.
